Après une heure à trop réflechir, il nous est apparu que le mieux à écrire ne tenait qu'en une phrase : "Safariari, c'est mignon."
Une tasse de thé, de gros coussins et hop !

After one hour to think too much, it seemed to us that the best to write about that new norvegian guy was only in a sentence: " Safariari, it's sweet."
A cup of tea, big pillows and go !
On Jon's t-shirt, you can read in norvegian "Cats are the best". Hell yeah !
1- How did you pick the name of the band ?
I actually made a surf inspired tune several years ago that kind of brought nature programs of the African savannah to mind. That's where the Safari-part came from. However, I felt that simply "Safari" was a bit dull name for a track, so I added another "ari" at the end. And somehow the name just stuck, and I ended up using that name for the project.
2- Why did you go to Japan to finish your album ?
Yes, it is quite far. I wish it was closer! I studied Japanese earlier and lived six months in Sapporo, so I know the language a bit. I got a chance to do some travel this autumn, so I thought I'd go to Tokyo for a couple of months to get away from distractions in Norway, to be able to focus 100% on finishing the album. There are of course no less distractions in Tokyo than in Oslo, so it didn't work out exactly as planned, ha ha. I still managed to get a good bit of work done, though.
Anyway, it was fantastic going back. I got to DJ a bit while I was there, and met some great people, so I hope to go back when finishing up another album as well.
3- What were your influences on this record ?
It's difficult to pinpoint exact influences. On earlier records, I have kind of taken the "anything goes" approach, but I wanted to make a pure disco/house record this time around. I set some limits for myself where I decided that 9 out of 10 tracks on the album was to have a 4/4 beat, and I feel I managed to stick to that pretty well.
I guess it is a rather wide record. I can hear stuff that points to 80s, 90s as well as 00s dance music there. Also, I grew up on indie rock, and love 60s stuff, like bossa nova, soundtracks and so on, so I can imagine there are traces of that to be found as well. It probably ended up as "anything goes as long as it's possible to put a 4/4 beat under it".
4- If we had to retain only a thing of your music ?
Well, I love pop music, and think it is extremely difficult to write music without having strong melodies. So if you listen close enough there are tons of little nice melodies and nice chord changes there. It is instrumental pop music disguised as house...
5- Last time you've been dancing ?
Ha ha, I can't remember exactly. I feel like I'm dancing all the time. I have a tendency to dance around the room a bit when making a track and the track begins to work, so probably an hour or two ago.
