It's impossible to talk about this parisian duo without mentionning its prestigious members. Priors, its Yann Destal singer of Modjo (you must remember Lady (Hear Me Tonight), big hit of the 2000's) and Raw Man, a parisian musician who has worked with Play Paul (brother of one of Daft Punk's member) and released a track on Kitsuné.
With What You Need they draw a fresh and well-set electro pop. Their music is to be light, almost naive, and everything seems to go this way. An album is in the works and new remixes are about to come out. Follow them closely !
1- What made you decide to form a band together ?
Yann & I know each other for a long time. I've always seen Yann as a kind of "phantom of paradise". He's that kind of guy who lives in his own world and this can be a huge advantage when you're a musician. I've always loved his voice and the way he uses it, there's something bitter sweet in it. We meet thru Romain Tranchart, who was a good friend of mine when Yann was doing Modjo with him.
2- Which good quality can you find in each other when making music ?
The ideas keep popping from each of us, it's like a match of table tennis except that the ball is a song. We play with it 'til we are happy.
3- In your opinion which country offers the best opportunities in terms of a musical career ?
We're Parisian so it's not really a choice to be working in France. I often think it's easier to be a foreigner but I presume it's just an illusion. Times have changed, you're now in touch with the world even in the countryside so I'm quite sure it's not a problem to be here or there to work.
4- Are you going to make an album in the same light, fresh,"naive" spirit ? Or should we expect darker songs ?
To be honest, we're not very dark and I think we're in the same mood regarding the band, it has to stay naive, lighting our desperate home life.
At the same time, some of the songs we've done recently contain other moods, like sadness or even criticisms of our world. We won't use dark make up, wear 20 inch high black coat though. That's a joke, I like people living outside the Matrix.
5- What was the stupidest thing you've ever done as a child ?
It's too stupid to be said out loud: 78 injuries 134 dead pigeons and a 3 foot high basketball player... I'm not proud.
